Cuenca is a beautiful city, unique for its culture and identity plus its suburbs, so it has become an almost obligatory stop for national and foreign tourists. Cuenca is surrounded by majestic Andean mountain landscapes, historical architecture, exquisite cuisine and an ensemble of outstanding artists, all of whom have made this city Ecuador´s extraordinary tourist destination.DPP07DC011E122238

Some 25 minutes by car from Cuenca is El Cajas National Park, a naturally magical place with some 210 lakes. Dos Chorreras Inn is located inside the Park, on the Andean hillside.

Over 28 years, Dos Chorreras has left a lasting impression on all its guests. It has been converted into an eco-lodge, perfect for couples, families and groups of friends, all of whom can feel the energy only a place such as this one can generate. The site includes seventeen rooms, most of them with their own jacuzzi and fireplace, plus spectacular views in every direction. In addition, two restaurants, one Andean and the other international cuisine, a business center seating 450 people, a bar, a cafeteria and a creative crafts store. And, of course, attractive options for outdoor activities.

An event called “live cooking” takes place every Friday and Saturday from 7 p.m. in one of the Inn´s restaurants. The idea is for guests to learn, taste and get to know each other while the chef prepares the most delicious local dishes. Fish, meat and poultry are part of this enticing culinary program, in the midst of sublime wines and cozy fireplaces.

Outdoor activities include group horseback rides such as the one along the old García Moreno road, on the only sector still remaining of the first road that connected Ecuador´s lowlands with its highlands. This same route can done on bicycle, always with a certified guide who can lead guests to other places such as the town of Guavidula, the outlook to Cueva del Cóndor (cave of the condor) and the marvelous Dos Chorreras waterfalls.

Other great choices are canoe rides, an excellent way to admire the animal and plant life in the area, or fishing for rainbow trout in one of the Inn´s many lakes. A more strenuous option is to hike up to the grand lagoon that gives the Inn its name, passing through the Dos Chorreras waterfalls, an extraordinary adventure.

Two years ago, the Inn launched its own line of gourmet handmade cheeses, pickles, jams and canned fruits, among other delicacies available in the crafts store on site. The store also carries so-called Panama hats, which are actually handmade in Cuenca, ponchos made from alpaca wool, makana textiles plus other authentic indigenous souvenirs. Don´t worry about excess baggage because you can purchase all this stuff through www.hosteriadoschorreras.com and have everything delivered at your home in just two days.
